Our new normal

Many of our friends and family have been following our son’s rapid dissent into the abyss of Bipolar disorder.  It started in October of 2015 and he rapidly and consistently became a raging, violent, defiant child.  He has been to 3 different Psychiatric Hospitals 5 times in the last 2 1/2 months.

In the 1st week of October 2015 he was suspended from school for 4 days for violent rages.

In the 2nd week of October 2015 he was suspended from school for 2 days for violent rages and threatening other students.

3rd week of October 2015- 5 days-Summit Ridge Psychiatric Hospital, Lawrencville, GA.  Then continued in their Partial Hospitalization Program until he had to be admitted to inpatient care the 1st week of November at Laurelwood Hospital. (Running away, violent rages, punching holes in the wall, punching self in the face, setting fires in his bathroom).

1st week of November 2015-7 days-Laurelwood Psychiatric Hospital, Gainsville, GA. (Raging, Suicidal threats and Ideation -Intent with a plan).

Referred to intensive family intervention services through Family Ties, Inc. (In home therapy-3 times a week, new psychological evaluation, now sleeping in our room with an alarm on the door-some nights he doesn’t sleep at all).

3rd week of November 2015-6 days-Laurelwood Psychiatric Hospital, Gainsville, GA. (Raging, beating his head against walls and floor, attempting to choke himself, cutting himself with a piece of broken drywall he punched out of the wall.)

2nd week of December 2015-5 days-Laurelwood Psychiatric Hospital, Gainsville, GA. (Raging at school, Suicidal threats and attempt).

1st week of January 2016-Current placement-Rivers Edge Psychiatric Hospital, Macon, GA. (Running into the street, banging his head repeatedly on the windows, cutting himself with scissors).
